Match Play 21 is a strange little Blackjack variant and one in which all of the ten cards are removed from the deck. The picture cards, namely the Jacks, Queens and Kings
remain in the deck but no Ten cards.
This variant of Blackjack has some built in bonus payouts that start to hit once you get certain hands dealt, these require no additional side bet and are based on your stake amount.
Number Of Decks:
Match Play 21 uses six regular decks of playing cards. However the casino can set the number of decks in play.
Splitting Rules:
You are allowed to Split any two cards that have the same, equal value. By splitting
you need to place an additional bet on the new hand which has to be the same as your initial wager amount.
You can, should you wish, keep on splitting and play up a maximum of three hands.
Doubling Down Rules:
You can Double Down on any two cards, and you may double down after splitting cards.
Dealer Play:
The Dealer will always Hit a soft 17 hand. This game is a hole card game so the Dealer will be checking for Blackjack when he is holding a Ten or an Ace.
If he has, then he will reveal his hand and the game will be brought to its conclusion.
Online players need to be aware that the entire deck is shuffled before each game begins.
Payouts and House Edge:
A Blackjack hand pays 3 to 2, and a winning Insurance bet pays 2-1.
The Bonus payouts for getting certain hands are as follows:
Match Play 21 = 40-1
7+ Cards totalling 21 = 3-1
3 x 7's in the suit of Spades = 3-1
6,7,8 of Spades = 3-1
3 x 7's suited = 2-1
6,7,8 suited = 2-1
6 Card 21 hand = 2-1
3 x mixed 7's = 3-2
6,7,8 mixed suit = 3-2
5 Card 21 hand = 3-2
The House Edge of the Match Play 21 game, when played with six decks is 0.76%.
Match Play 21 - Hints and Tips
The first thing you should do is to find a casino that offers the lowest number of decks, the more decks in play the higher the house edge, so always
remember in Blackjack the lower the number of decks the better!
You should always hit your hand if you are holding a 4,5,6,7,8 or an Ace,2 or Ace,3.
Another tip is to always split Aces, this goes for most Blackjack games! Ok, so it
will cost you an additional wager but it is the best strategy and by not splitting them you
are doing yourself no favors!
Due to the bonus payout when you have a Pair of Sevens and the Dealer upcard is a Seven you should
not split if you have a pair of suited Sevens, you will be kicking yourself if you split them
and get dealt another suited Seven as the bonus payout doesn't pay if you have split a hand!
