Well, it was only a matter of time before Maine’s residents decided that they wanted to expand their love of gambling to something more than slot machines. There was a lot of trouble in the state years ago when a tribe was trying to bring in their slot machines and the people of the state would not allow it. Then they allowed a casino to come in and the tribe tried again, only to be voted down once again.Maine’s residents did not want a lot of gambling. However, once you start seeing all of the money that is tied in with it there is usually a desire to expand a little further into the realm of gambling.

Now Maine’s residents can play blackjack games for money because they have allowed table games to come into their state. For the first time, players can legally play poker, blackjack, craps, etc. for money at the Bangor,Maine casino. Regulation Clarification is Necessary

The state of Florida has seemingly gotten itself into a bit of a bind with both the Seminole Tribe and the owners of the pari mutuals in the state. They have indirectly authorized the expansion of gambling in the state, which means more gaming for the state, and it also means a violation of the compact that they signed with the Seminole Indian Tribe. They are now trying to figure out how to fix what they have done without making too many people angry and not losing the money that the tribe is currently giving them. The biggest problem is that the tribe is liable to pull the money that they agreed to send the state for the exclusive right to offer blackjack and less competition in other areas.

The tribe had been trying for years to get slot machines in the state, however, Governor Jeb Bush would not hear of it. So two counties then legalize it for their citizens and now the tribe had the right to bring in slots. The problem was that if they had brought them in before they were legalized, they would have had to pay money to the state. But now that they were not, they could conceivably bring them in and not pay the state anything, So, in order to get money from the tribe, the state had to give them blackjack as well – and now it looks like they have taken that away from them – which means the state will lose the $233 million check that the tribe gives them for the compact.

According to news outlets like cbsnews.com, if these other locations start offering blackjack the tribe does not have to pay the state. But the state can’t seem to get out of its own way in order to fix it either. Lawyers for the state have been furiously working to close those loopholes and the Senate will not let them. They will not allow them to pass any rules that clarify what the games are, thus essentially shooting themselves in the foot. With many counties already looking to start bringing in the games through these loopholes, the Senate needs to work quickly to close them down or they are going to lose a significant amount of money for being in violation of the compact that the state signed.

Boston Group Fighting to Keep Casino Out

In this day and age, one would think that most people would have resigned themselves to the fact that online blackjack is going to be legalized some day. You would also think that these same people would realize that gambling is spreading and not just online – but in every possible location if legislators have their way. Those in positions of authority have realized that this is a great way to get more tax money out of their residents’ pockets – for that is all that it really is. The group is called No Eastie Casino and they are working together to see how they might keep the proposed slot machines and blackjack tables from coming to their neck of the woods. They are not a large group, but they are dedicated to their cause. They have a Facebook page and are meeting regularly in each other’s living rooms to attempt to keep the wolves at bay. They say that they love their city and they want to make sure that it does not change from how it is now to a busy metropolis teeming with addicts and crime.

However, they have terrible odds so to speak and a gambling person would probably bet against them. There is not much you can do against the powers that be, but this group is no stranger to controversy. They have fought to keep an expansion ofMassachusetts’ Port Authority out of their neighborhood, and they say that they will fight just as hard against the increase in traffic, etc. that they say this casino will bring to their location.

No One is Infallible

Too often we hear stories about those that play blackjack or poker or slot machines, the list goes on and on; that could not control their gambling habits. This is the case with Judge Harold L. who is 69 years old. The judge has been arrested and charged with conspiracy, promotion of gambling, and running and illegal enterprise among other charges. He was running an illegal casino and two of his former card room operators have testified against the judge in order to get lessened sentences.

He will be spending time in jail, but it is not known exactly how long. His biggest problem is going to be the fact that he knows the law and that he was running this illegal gambling anyway – when he had the authority to know write from wrong and punish those that did the latter.

How weird and inappropriate is it to teach children how to gamble? Pretty bad, right? Now, what if those classes were sanctioned by GamCare – a support group that is similar to Alcoholic’s Anonymous? Would you think that they were more or less appropriate for your children? Many are split on the idea of their children taking classes as related to online gambling and playing blackjack, etc. but the support group says that this is the best way to head off an addiction or any sort of a problem later on when they are adults. They are arguing that we teach children about all kinds of things, but we do not explain how to gamble. We then send them out into the world with nothing but the knowledge that gambling is this mysterious sort of thing that they could not do until they were older – making it out to be some sort of taboo thing that they cannot wait to get into.
