Hitting a hand in Blackjack simply means that you are indicating to the dealer that you wish to receive another card to add to the two cards you have already been dealt.
By hitting unlike Doubling Down you are getting dealt this additional card free of charge and you can hit an initial hand as many time as you want.
But some players will make lots of mistakes when playing Blackjack and hitting their hand when the correct
strategy dictates otherwise is the most common error they
will make and by doing so they will end up at the wrong side of the
House Edge.
There are just two factors to take into account when you are deciding to hit your hand and these are a) What you are holding and b) What the dealers up card is.
There are a few occasions when hitting your hand requires no thought at all and should you be playing a single deck game and you are holding either a 5, 6, 7 or 8
then no matter what card the dealer is showing then the correct move to make is to hit your hand.
Another time when you should always hit your hand is when you have a 12, 13, 14, 15 or 16 and the dealer is holding a 7, 8, 9, 10 or an Ace, don't be tempted to
make any other move simply hit your hand as by doing so you are playing perfect strategy and this will give you the best odds.
If you have a soft hand in a single deck game, a soft hand is a simply a hand that has an Ace in it, and that hand totals 13, 14, 15, 16 or 17 then you should always
hit that hand also, irrespective of what the dealer is holding.
If you have split a pair of Aces then in the majority of Blackjack games you are not permitted to hit this hand after thy have been split, and just one new card will be dealt to them
and then they will automatically stand.
The easiest way to be 100% sure that you are making the correct move when playing any Blackjack game then you should grab yourself a Blackjack Strategy Card which
will show you exactly the correct move to make when faced with any card and these are invaluable if you are a new player and don't know the right moves to make.
Never be intimidated into making an incorrect move when playing any form of Blackjack, if the strategy dictates that you should hit your hand then hit it, let other players
make the wrong moves, and if they do just let it ride over you as telling another players how to play will not do you any favours!
