As every Blackjack player will know you are always up against the house edge when you play any variant of this game, each one varies based on factors such as the game rules and the number of decks in each shoe.

This allows for the casino to have a built in profit margin on this game and as such they know, over the long term they will make money on all their Blackjack games.

But due to each casino being able to tweak the game rules or payouts they can do so in such a way that players don't get the maximum value out of each wager, and one such way that casino operators are cashing in is via short pays.

But what are short pays I hear you cry, well simply put they reduce the payout when a player has a Blackjack, normally you would expect to get paid 3-2 on a Blackjack hand, however some greedy, money hungry casinos have been lowering this to 6-5 or in extreme cases 7-5!

If mathematics isn't your strong point then this will have the effect of giving you, for a 6-5 Blackjack payout just $60 for a $50 wager, whereas a 3-2 payout would return $75 for a $50 wager.

This is a disturbingly low payout and will have a dramatic effect on even a low stake players bankroll, in fact if you are playing a Single Deck shoe with such paltry payouts then you are going are going to bust out 8 times more quickly than you would by playing a normal 3-2 Blackjack paying single deck game!

Some casinos have also been spinning the addition of single deck games to their portfolio of table games by proudly proclaiming that they offer players single deck games, making it look, on the outside they are being very generous and even charitable.

But by looking down on to the Blackjack table felt you will see those dreaded words, Blackjack pays 6-5! If you see such information on the Blackjack table then keep your chips in your pocket, turn around and find another casino at which to play.

However sadly some players are blissfully unaware of this low paying game, and as long as they have a bankroll in their pocket they will sit down and play anywhere, one thing is for certain however and that is by playing 6-5 paying Blackjack the only people who will benefit is those who are shareholders in the casino!

The only way to stop the influx of these 6-5 games is for people to vote with their feet, and if everyone walks by such Blackjack tables then maybe, one day soon, casinos will revert back to 3-2 paying Blackjack games.

Treat your Blackjack bankroll as a valuable commodity and the next time you are in Vegas or any other gambling Mecca make sure you shop around, unless of course you want to bust out eight times more quickly, if you do then a 6-5 paying Blackjack table is right up your street!
